All classes are taught from 1:00 - 5:00 PM Monday - Friday during the regular school year.  Students will also be required to attend 8 hours per day from August 1, 2007 until their home high school starts, and from the end of the home high school in May until June 13, 2008 at 8 hours a day. There are two entities able to offer cosmetology training in the Gila Valley.  The Safford College of Beauty Culture (SCBC) and the Eastern Arizona Academy of Cosmetology (EAAC) will both offer programs in conjunction with GIFT. Cosmetology is a 1600 hour program that can be completed by attending the junior and senior year of high school. GIFT will pay the cost of the program for eligible students up to the maximum number of slots GIFT has approved. Students will be required to pay $450 on their kit.

Students who are interested in applying must meet the following criteria to be considered:

1. A senior enrolling in cosmetology must have enough credits to graduate from high school at the end of the school year. All students must have at least 10 high school credits including 2 credits in English.

2. Students must commit to attending beauty school 8 hours per day from August 1, 2007 until the home high school starts, then attend 4 hours per day during the regular school year, and attend 8 hours a day from the last day of their home high school until June 13, 2008.

Application Process:

 1. Complete the online application for GIFT at www.gift-tech.org .

 2. Have two teacher recommendation forms completed     ( you can pick those up now from your career techs at your high school)

 3. After February 16, 2007 high schools will lose slots not used. GIFT will then evaluate all applications based  on student grades, attendance, teacher recommendations, other application information and make a selection of students accepted.  All students who complete the application packets will be notified of their acceptance, or that they will be placed on a waiting list by May 18, 2007.

4. Once a student receives his/her acceptance letter to the beauty school of their choice, a visit to the beauty school will be arranged for them to complete any other paperwork necessary by the individual beauty school. Please do not call or visit the beauty school before receiving the acceptance letter from GIFT.
